Photos by the Ems Valley U3A PHOTOGRAPHY Group

The Photography Group, under the expert guidance of Jeff Thatcher, meet regularly in the Community Centre, with trips out in the summer months to broaden our photographic horizons. We enjoy being inspired to experiment with new camera techniques and to improve our composition skills. We show our monthly assignments to the rest of the group, for constructive criticism and encouragement.

VISIT TO THE VYNE
Because the National Trust, who own The Vyne, have cannily opened up the site to the public and you can see the whole repair process happening from an extraordinary angle, way above the roof. The initial sight of the roof scaffolding is breathtaking, it's immense.

Photography Group Arts Trail Exhibition

Well, the Arts Trail Exhibition held over the Mayday Bank Holiday is now a memory, but the results for us have been interesting. Almost every member took their turn at stewarding (thanks to Val Swarbrick for ensuring that went well) and quite enjoyed it, especially as there were a lot of favourable comments! It's very interesting to get outsiders' views, they are often very different from our own opinions and even more often different from very experienced photographers.

We had over 1000 visitors to our own exhibition, no doubt reflected by the general interest in the Arts Trail. It also produced more public interest in the U3A itself, and we had several enquiries about how to join.
We encouraged our visitors to anonymously note down their own two favourite images (a practice we started 2 years ago, but notice that other exhibitors are following suit now) and Martin Stewart received more votes than anyone else. Hearty congratulations to him……….
There's a collection of the most popular photos here on the website.
We are now on holiday - with our cameras of course - and will resume meetings on Monday 18th September 2017. More details will follow soon about this. We look forward to seeing old and new members then.
